★映画との違い—オリジナルではCora Munro（姉）とAlice（妹）（映画はたぶん逆）。そしてCoraの「黒さ」がかなり特徴づけられている。Coraのキャラクター設定がかなりよい。白いAliceは行動力が全くない。奴隷の娘として設定されているCoraはUncusとかなりいいカップルを作っている。美しく、そしてある意味野蛮という作品のファンタジーを背負っている。Hawk-eyeはそのかわりに「白く」設定されている。
★入り乱れる言語―英語、フランス語、そしてインディアンの言語。それに通じているのは誰か、誰が誰を理解できるのかというのがプロットの鍵の一つになっている。Code switchingが大事であること。
